Crismon High School’s Link Crew Welcomes in Freshman Class

This past week, Crismon High School (CHS) welcomed new students at freshman orientation with the help of CHS’s Link Crew. Link Crew is a club that helps new students learn the ins and outs of the campus and brings excitement for the new school year. Link Crew helps makes the transition from junior high to high school easier as they help answer questions, find classrooms, and be a familiar face for incoming freshmen.

This year, two CHS Link Crew members, Olivia S. and Alexandra M., shared their experience with Link Crew highlighting the impact this program has had on them and other students.

"I feel like welcoming kids is one of the most important things at a new school. Having connections with high schoolers, particularly upperclassmen, can make them [new students] feel more comfortable." said Olivia. Olivia and Alexandra both put emphasis on the importance of welcoming in new students.

"We're here to bring spirit and hope, so they can make connections and build relationships among themselves." added Alexandra.

Link Crew benefits not just new students, but gives its members a sense of pride as well. Olivia and Alexandra have both found that the effort they put into Link Crew returns to them throughout the school year. "Seeing all the kids having fun and recognizing me in the hallway brings so much joy. It shows that they feel welcome and that I've done my job correctly," Olivia shared.

Alexandra agreed, stating "Especially the smiles. A lot of kids come in scared, but when they see they can build connections with upperclassmen, they feel more comfortable. It brings a lot of joy to us when they recognize us in the hallway."

As Alexadra and Olivia prepared to help with the day’s orientation, they expressed what they hoped freshman would take away from the event. Olivia hopes that freshmen understand they belong at Crismon High School and can play a significant role in shaping its future. "I hope they know they can really set the role here, prove that they belong, and feel important to the school. They can set traditions and know they have a place here," she said.

Alexandra encouraged freshmen to enjoy their time and prioritize their goals. "These four years go by fast. Set your mind and be determined, especially if you want to pursue something in the future."

Link Crew is more than just a welcoming committee. It's a vital part of the school culture that helps students build connections, feel comfortable on campus, and set the stage for their high school career. Thanks to members like Olivia Smith and Alexandra Merlos, incoming students can find a friendly face and a sense of belonging at Crismon High School.
